Methods A cohort of office employees in a city were selected to have lectures on "platinum ten minutes" first-aid for popularization of scientific knowledge. A questionnaire was designed for the participants to evaluate their understanding of "platinum ten minutes self-and-mutual rescue" after the lectures. The questionnaire included three parts: (1) participants' basic information: gender, age, whether to participate in self-and-mutual rescue training before and so on; (2)self-and-mutual rescue knowledge, including "platinum ten minutes" related information and self-and-mutual rescue awareness; (3) first aid skills including vital signs judgment, basic knowledge of cardiopulmonary resuscitation and self-and-mutual rescue. Scoring of everyone’s results was carried out and the data were input by Epidata3.1 for analysis by SPSS17.0 software.
Results Among 361 participants, there were 159 males (44 %) and 202 females (55.9 %), at age of (38.72±9.98) years (23-69 years). Of all, 262 participants (72.6%) had heard of"emergency platinum ten minutes". The test scores of 10 basic skills were that for self-and-mutual rescue (10 points), the highest score was 10 points, the lowest 2 points, with an average of (7.24±1.66) points, in which 9-10 points accounted for 18.4% (65 participants), 6-8 points accounted for 42.8% (151 persons) and <6 points for 4.8% (17 participants). For 7 items including electric shock, burn and scald, stampede, poisoning, judgment of awareness, judgment of cardiac arrest, and strain, the correct rate was higher than 60% while for the other 3 items including hemostatic bandage, transportation and extiathoracic cardiac massage site, the correct rate was less than 60%. There was no significant difference in aspects of gender and age (P>0.05).
Conclusions Performance of "platinum ten minutes" training for the office workers can help them clarify their concept of first-aid and the consciousness of rescue, and promote the development and implementation of the first-aid and rescue policies and measurements.
