Disease spectrum of emergency treatment in a third-class hospital of Jiangsu province during COVID-19 period and the same period in 2019: a comparative analysis

Abstract:

Objective

To analyze the composition of the disease spectrum of emergency treatment patients in a Third-class hospital of Nantong, Jiangsu Province from January 2020 to July 2020, which makes a comparative analysis with the same period in 2019, so as to provide the management strategy for the local government and medical departments.

Methods

A total of 101 443 patients in the emergency department of the hospital in 2019 and from January to July 2020 were selected as the research objects, including 52 025 males and 49 418 females; The age ranged from 1 to 97 years, with an average of (46.37±5.31) years. SPSS 23.0 was used to collect and analyze the data, and the disease spectrum composition, age distribution and gender composition of emergency patients in the same period of two years were compared.

Results

In this study, the top 8 diseases were respiratory system diseases, fever, trauma, digestive system diseases, nervous system diseases, circulatory system diseases, urinary system diseases and gynecological and obstetric diseases. In the past two years, respiratory diseasesalways ranked first. In 2020, the proportion of patients with respiratory and fever increased; in addition, the proportion of patients with trauma decreased, of which difference was statistically significant (P<0.01), According to the age characteristics, the number of patients aged 17 years and below increased significantly in 2020, from 23.74% in 2019 to 34.09% in 2020, of which difference was statistically significant (P<0.01), According to the analysis of gender characteristics, the number of men in emergency treatment was slightly more than that of women, of which difference was statistically significant (P < 0.05).

Conclusion

During the COVID-19 epidemic, respiratory system diseases, fever and trauma are the main treatment diseases, and respiratory system diseases rank first. We should actively improve relevant systems and processes, strengthen the professional level and first aid ability construction of emergency teams, and ensure that the top three patients in the disease spectrum receive professional, timely and effective treatment.
