Public awareness of potential risks related to influenza in the context of COVID-19 prevention and control

Abstract:

Objective

To measure and analyze the public awareness of potential influenza risk and its influencing factors in the context of COVID-19 prevention and control, so as to remind the public to be vigilant against influenza epidemic and provide reference for the scientific prevention and control of COVID-19 epidemic.

Methods

A total of 4 325 valid questionnaires were collected in China in February 2021. SPSS was used for χ2 test and binary logistic regression analysis.

Results

In the context of COVID-19 prevention and control, the public’s risk perception level of influenza was slightly higher, and the overall average score of influenza risk perception was 4.030the overall average score of influenza risk perception na in February 2021. SPSS was used for scient(OR=1.291) and health level (OR=1.434) were positively correlated with the public’s perception of influenza risk. Education level (OR=0.712), negative emotion (OR=0.768) and susceptibility perception of COVID-19 (OR=0.665) were negatively correlated with the public’s risk perception of influenza.

Conclusions

In the context of COVID-19 epidemic prevention and control, the public’s risk perception of influenza is slightly higher, and the public is on alert for influenza. The public who have been sick with influenza are more aware of the harm of influenza and have a high level of influenza risk perception. The public with high healthy level has strong awareness and high level of influenza risk perception. It is suggested to be vigilant against the co-infection risk of COVID-19 and influenza, to rationally regulate the level of public perception of influenza risk and actively publicize and advocate influenza vaccination.
