Emergency medical services at the medical stations during the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games

Abstract:

Objective

To analyze 4 408 cases collected from the venues medical station during the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games, and to explore the diseases characteristics and emergency medical program for the winter massive events.

Methods

The Medical Encounter Form System formulated by the International Olympic Committee was used to collect cases of diagnosis and treatment at venue medical stations during the Beijing Winter Olympic Games, and the types, diseases and places were retrospectively analyzed.

Results

A total of 4 408 cases were treated in 12 competition venues and 7 non-competition venues for the Beijing Winter Olympic Games, of which 659(14.95%) cases were dental diseases, 626(14.20%) cases were skin diseases, and 580 (13.16%) were musculoskeletal diseases; 1 367 (31.01%) cases were staff, 750(17.01%) cases were volunteers, 524 (11.89%) cases were athletes and 33(0.75%) cases were spectators; 1 514 cases (34.35%) visited the general clinics, 814 cases (18.47%) visited the athlete medical stations, 705 cases (15.99%) visited the media medical stations, 640 cases(14.52%) visited the staff medical stations, 361 cases(8.19%) visited the VIP medical stations and 360 cases (8.17%) visited the spectators stations.

Conclusion

The population of massive events in the winter have the characteristics of diversified medical needs and wide distribution of disease spectrum, and therefore an efficient emergency medical service system should be established according to the characteristics of large-scale activities.
