Abstract:
Objective To understand the epidemiological characteristics of road traffic injury patients with pre-hospital treatment in Zhenjiang area in 2014.
Methods By using retrospective analysis method, the age, gender, date and time, injury types and injury sites were analyzed in road traffic injury patients of >14 years old treated from Jan. 1st 2014 to Dec. 31rd 2014 in Zhenjiang Emergency Medical Center.
Results A total of 2 583 road traffic accident victims were studied. 1455 cases(56.3%) were males, and 1128 cases(43.7%) females, with the male/female ratio of 1.29∶1. Patients aged between 15-93 years, with mean age of(46.49±15.58) years and a median(interquartile range) of 47(34, 58) years. Road traffic injury patients occurred most frequently in October, with a total of 336 cases(13.01%); the least in February, with a total of 107 cases(4.14%). Road traffic injuries most commonly occurred at 8∶00-9∶00 in the morning, with a total of 194 cases(7.51%); those occurred least 03∶00-04∶00, with a total of 9 cases(0.35%); head and limbs were the most common site of injury, accounting for 78.17%; Injury in two or more parts occurred in 220 people, accounting for 8.52% of the total. Serious road traffic injuries were found in 124 cases(4.81%), moderate injuries in 647 cases (25.04%), and mild injuries in 1812 cases (70.15%).
Conclusions Traffic injuries are given priority to male youths, and these most frequently occur during 8∶00-9∶00 in October in Zhenjiang area; the majority of injuries are found in the head and limbs, and most patients are mildly injured.
