Curative effect of betahistine combined with Brandt-Daroff exercise in the treatment of subjective benign paroxysmal positional vertigo

Abstract:

Objective

To evaluate the efficacy of Betastatin combined with Brandt-Daroff exercisetreatedthe subjective benign paroxysmal positional vertigo(S-BPPV).

Methods

A prospective study was conducted on 90 patients with s-bppv who were admitted to the department of neurology of Wujin Hospital Affiliated to Jiangsu University from January 2012 to December 2017. Among them, there were 27 males and 63 females, whose age ranged from 38 to 84 years withthe average age of 61.19 ±12.18 years. The patients were randomly divided into two groups by random number table method, the Betastatin drug treatment group (40 cases), the drug treatment combined Brandt-Daroff exercise treatment group (50 cases). The curative effects were observed after 1 weeks, 2 weeks and 3 weeks respectively.

Results

The total effective rate of Betastatin combined with Brandt-Daroff exercise in the treatment of S-BPPV was higher than the drug treatment group (P<0.05 after 1 weeks, 2 weeks and 3 weeks. There were 3 cases (7.50%) patients relapse in the drug treatment group after 3 weeks.

Conclusion

The total effective rate of Betastatin combined with Brandt-Daroff exercise treated the S-BPPV was better than the drug treatment, and it can also reduce the short-term recurrence rate of the S-BPPV.
