Abstract:

Objective

To explore the effect of damage control concept in emergency care of patients with severe trauma.

Methods

Forty-five patients with severe trauma in the Affiliated Hospital of Nantong University admitted from July 2019 to June 2020 were reviewed as the treatment group, and 43 cases of severe trauma patients admitted from July 2018 to June 2019 were reviewed as the control group. The patients in the treatment group were treated in the concept of damage control in first aid nursing, comparing with the control group which was treated according to the routine emergency nursing measures.

Results

The time from triage to hospitalization or emergency surgery in the treatment group [(54.7±7.3) min] were shorter than that in the control group [(108.9±8.5) min] (t=32.14, P<0.01). The satisfaction of the patients and their family members in the treatment group was 97.78%, which was higher than the control group (79.07%) (χ2=7.04, P<0.01). The treatment group was better than the control group in the treatment effect (survival rate, complication and mortality) (χ2=4.13, P<0.05).

Conclusion

The concept of damage control applied to the whole process of emergency nursing for patients with severe trauma effectively improves the treatment effect and the satisfaction of patients and their families.
